Australian designer Ruth Tarvydas presents her fiery new collection for Spring Summer 2010 entitled ‘Heat Stroke.’
Inspired by the drama and dichotomy of a storm in the burning heat of summer, the collection interprets strikes of lightning, hard pelting rain and the massive changes in temperature in a impressive array of evening and cocktail wear in a striking palette of smouldering reds, warm oranges and gold’s, cooling into turquoise, silvers and marine blues.
This season, Tarvydas explores her signature black in a variety of fabrics and textures, including duchess silk, tulle detail, wet-look nylon, chiffon and feathering.
In true Tarvydas style, the Perth icon has created a selection of spectacular couture dresses held within the collection – each one a vivid embodiment of her inspiration for the season.
Stand out designs include ‘Heat Wave’ and ‘Heat Stroke’, red carpet ready mini dresses with breathtaking cut outs curving around the body, both highlighted with smoking black tulle from shoulder to waist. The latter of which is adorned completely in tangerine and white hot Swarovski stones resulting in an incredible statement piece.
This theme is continued into items such as ‘Smashed’, ‘Too Hot’ and the ‘Smashed Belt’ which explores the effect of extreme heat on glass, each detailed with varying large stones and chains. The ‘Mirage’ and ‘Warped’ dresses draw from the inspiration of the effect of heat stroke on the human mind and the silvery visions on the horizon that are created.
