Pies are a core competency of Mick’s Bakehouse for a number of reasons: They are handmade. Only the best raw ingredients are used. Quality cuts of meat are bought in large batches and fully prepared in-house. We buy top grade cuts 90% trim for mince and high quality pieces of topside for the gourmet range. This method of preparing the meat in-house has proven through the test of time, to deliver the best product quality consistency. A commitment to product quality freshness. This is evident in the way in which all products are handled in the process of reaching the end consumer. Innovative and creative fillings to tempt all tastes.
Well known locally as the ‘pie man’, Michael Di Salvatore has won numerous medals and competitions with his famous pies. Mick’s story is an interesting blend of talent, courage and dedication.
Michael didn’t plan on being a famous baker. When he was 15, he was left at the local supermarket to help out one night. Here he learned to press the bread dough – “You add the yeast and the next thing the bread is growing and multiplying, like it’s a living organism. I thought it was kind of miraculous”.
