Established in 1978, the Nine West brand took its name from its founding address at 9 West, 57th Street in New York City.

Nine West opened its first Australian store at 260 Collins Street, Melbourne in 1995. Nine West now operate over sixty independent stores in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. The company has also opened a number of retail concessions in David Jones stores in Victoria and New South Wales.
