Smooth

Smooth is the design team of Cathy McQuade and Amanda Owens.

Our mission is to make you look gorgeous, and to have fun doing it. Smooth are a Sydney based fashion design team creating for women, not girls.

Back in the 80’s the two girls met in the music industry, when Amanda booked Cathy’s band Deckchairs Overboard to play at her nightclub, the infamous Stranded. Girls were not common in the industry in those days, and the two formed a kind of girl power alliance. It only came out years later that they were both born in the same remote part of North Wales.

Smooth are located in Sydney’s prestigious Queen Victoria Building and if you are lucky enough to get there you may be overwhelmed by the gorgeous fabrics. Amanda and Cathy are self-confessed ‘fabric tragics’ , and simply can’t resist buying the most beautiful textiles they can find. These days they have moved into designing their own silks and silk velvets with overseas companies, but are committed to producing all their garments in Australia. In fact they still do most of the cutting themselves.
